FAQs
Frequently asked questions
I am homeless, will I be a high priority?
- Homelessness is not a high priority for social housing, so you should speak to our team if you are homeless, or threatened with homelessness, and we can provide advice and guidance on preventing your homelessness
How long does it take to be offered a property?
- The time it can take to be offered does vary. Those with a higher priority band, with have have shorter wait times. Those needing larger properties, 3 bed or greater, will face a longer wait. If you choose to conisder particular areas of the borough, or property types, such as houses and not flats, then you will also face a longer wait. To minimise the time you wait, we would recommend that you bid on all suitable properties, in all areas across the borough.
Do I have to accept a property if I am nominated?
- No you do not. Our scheme is a choiced based scheme, and you are entitled to reject up to three properties within a 12 month period. If you reject a suitable property, you will be given a strike. If you get three strikes within a 12 month period, your banding will be reduced to band 4. IF YOU ARE HOMELESS, you will be made one offer of suitable accommodation, and rejection of it will end your homeless duty, but will also reduce your priority within the scheme.
What happens if I do not submit documents with my registrations?
- If you do not provide required documents within two weeks of your registration, you application will be closed. You will then need to re-register if you want to join our scheme
